(08) Body Copy

Now let's talk about body copy. Body copy refers to the remaining text on your page.

It's important to include enough text for search engines to understand the relevance of your document. One common issue I've noticed with on-page optimization is insufficient body copy. However, it's crucial to strike a balance.

On one hand, some people prefer minimalist design and avoid excessive text. On the other hand, some people go overboard and spam their pages with too much content. My general rule of thumb is to aim for around a hundred words per page.

Keep in mind that you can still achieve a high page ranking with fewer words, but too much text can negatively impact user experience. Avoid including filler or useless text. Instead, focus on incorporating your exact match keyword two or three times, as well as synonyms and latent semantic indexing (LSI) keywords. Before finalizing your content, read it out loud to ensure it sounds natural.

If you can reach around a hundred words while following these guidelines, you're on the right track for optimization. It's important to find the right balance, as some people tend to overuse keywords and excessive copy, while others, such as portfolio sites and minimalist designers, may not include enough. Remember, the optimal approach will vary depending on the specific case.
