(13) Freshness / Recency

Let's explore the significance of freshness and recency. In 2011, Google introduced the Google Caffeine update, which aimed to prioritize new and fresh content. There are a few reasons behind this.

Firstly, outdated content is not user-friendly. The more relevant and recent your content is, the better it will be for users.

Secondly, certain queries are time-sensitive. For example, if you search for "Super Bowl" the day before the event, you're likely looking for information about the upcoming game. However, if you search for "Super Bowl" six months after the event, you may be interested in its history.

The key point here is that Google favors recency and freshness, and implementing this strategy can significantly increase your website traffic. One effective approach is to review your best-performing pages over time. Start with the pages that receive the most SEO traffic and make improvements.

Update screenshots, fix broken links, and generally refresh the content. I have found that when I do this and analyze my analytics, there is usually a noticeable boost in traffic. Google recognizes and values the newness, which can lead to longer site visits and more pages viewed per session. So, if you want to see an instant increase in traffic, focus on updating and improving your top-performing pages. Give them a thorough clean-up and make them fresh again.
