7 Welcome Onboarding

Let's start with welcome emails and onboarding campaigns. When new subscribers join our email list, we use a single email automation to welcome them. This automation is triggered by various ways someone can join our list, such as signing up for a lead magnet, downloading a PDF, enrolling in a mini course, or registering for a webinar. We have set up multiple entry points for these actions. After someone joins, we wait for one hour before sending the welcome email. This delay ensures that they receive any necessary confirmation emails first, such as login credentials or upcoming webinar details. The welcome email introduces our business and product. Now, let's see how you can set up a similar automation using MailChimp.

To create a new welcome email or onboarding campaign in MailChimp, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the "Campaigns" section and click on "Create Campaign."
  2. Choose "Email Campaign" and select "Automated" for the type of campaign.
  3. Instead of using MailChimp's templates, opt for a custom design.
  4. Name your campaign as the onboarding welcome sequence and select the appropriate email list.
  5. Set the trigger to be when someone signs up, but with a one-hour delay.
  6. Schedule the campaign to run all day, every day.
  7. Apply filters to ensure that the welcome flow only happens for those who have downloaded a lead magnet, registered for a mini course, or signed up for a webinar. Use tags to identify these conditions.
  8. Save your settings.

This automation will be triggered one hour after someone signs up for a lead magnet, mini course, or webinar. Whether they receive the lead magnet, mini course login, or webinar details first, the welcome sequence will follow after one hour. You can also set up a follow-up email to be sent two days after the previous email. If the previous email is not opened, you can choose to send a more aggressive follow-up after one day. Additionally, you can schedule the emails to be sent only on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Eastern Time, and target specific segments based on the tags you have set up.

Remember, this welcome and onboarding sequence is specifically designed for those who have taken one of the three actions mentioned earlier. It's a great way to engage new subscribers and introduce them to our business.
